Clarity first. Pixels per degree (PPD) decide whether you read the mirrors and the dash without leaning in. In this list it runs from 25 PPD on the Quest 3 to 57 on the Crystal Super (QLED). When a maker doesn't publish PPD, compare resolution per eye together with field of view.
Cable or stream. A native DisplayPort headset gets the image straight from your graphics card. Standalone headsets like the Quest 3 stream a compressed image over a cable or Wi-Fi: simpler and cheaper, a little softer on fine detail.
Your GPU is part of the price. High-resolution headsets need a strong graphics card to hold a steady frame rate. Eye tracking with dynamic foveated rendering can lighten the load where the game supports it. If your GPU is mid-range, buy the headset it can actually drive.
Count the extras. Lighthouse headsets like the Bigscreen Beyond 2 need SteamVR base stations, often sold separately. And weight matters over a long stint: from 107 g for the Beyond 2 to 815 g for the Crystal Light, as stated by the makers. Our VR guide has the rest.
